Toolskits

Download faster with the local helper

This optional helper runs a tiny download tool on your own computer instead of our server, so downloads use your internet connection. It can be faster, and it sidesteps occasional "sign in to confirm you're not a bot" errors that datacenter servers sometimes hit.

1

Download the helper for your system

Each download is a .zip containing the helper program and the tool it uses.

2

Unzip it

Extract the .zip anywhere you like — keep the bin folder next to the helper program, they need to stay together.

3

Run it

Windows: double-click mediafetch-helper.exe. If SmartScreen warns you, click "More info" → "Run anyway" (this is expected for an unsigned, small utility).

macOS: right-click mediafetch-helper → Open, then confirm. Regular double-click may be blocked by Gatekeeper the first time.

Linux: run chmod +x mediafetch-helper && ./mediafetch-helper from a terminal in the extracted folder.

A window opens and shows an 8-character pairing code. Leave it open while you download.

4

Enter the code on the site

Go back to the search page and click Download faster in the top bar. Type the code from the helper window and press Connect. A green "Local mode on" badge appears, and downloads now save straight into a Toolskits folder inside your Downloads folder.

If you close the browser tab, the helper shows a fresh code — just enter it again.

The helper only connects out to this site and only ever downloads YouTube, Instagram and TikTok links. Each pairing code works once and expires after 10 minutes, so nobody else can attach to your helper. You can quit it anytime — the site works the same without it, just through our server instead of your own connection.

About the local helper

The Toolskits local helper is an optional program you run on your own computer. Downloads then go through your internet connection instead of our server. That can be faster, and it avoids the “sign in to confirm you’re not a bot” errors that servers sometimes get from YouTube.

The helper can pause and resume a download, and it also understands Instagram and TikTok links for videos and reels.

Frequently asked questions

Is the helper safe?

It connects out to this site only, uses a fixed list of arguments for the downloader, and never accepts connections from the internet. Pairing codes are single-use and expire after 10 minutes.

Why does Windows or macOS warn me?

The helper is a small unsigned utility. On Windows choose More info, then Run anyway. On macOS right-click the program, choose Open, and confirm.

Do I have to use it?

No. The site works the same without it, through our server.
